How to find the title of a song you've heard on-air

"What's the title of the song that goes...?"

Never a day goes by that I do not hear that from a listener. I know. I know. As a DJ, people expect us to know these things. But we too are human. There's a limit to the amount of lyrics that we can memorize. So please forgive us if we do not know the answer.

Believe it or not, the question usually irritates DJs (even if we don't show it). Why? Well, it's actually so easy to find the answers. But in this fast-food world we live in, we all want the easy way out.

Now, for those of you who are willing to do a tiny bit of work for yourselves, here's what to do...

Go to Google.com or Yahoo.com.
Then, type the following three things as your search...
lyrics "(the lyrics that you know)" (the artist's name, if you know it)

Take note of the quotation marks. Those are important. But watch out for things that can be spelled differently (like "going to" or "gonna", "i am" or "i'm", "we are" or "we're" etc.). You can also put the artist before the lyrics for different results.

Next, right-click the resulting links and open in different tabs/windows. One of these will likely give you the answer you're looking for. That's it. It's that easy. Gosh, I really hope this blog helps someone.

normally...my problem is the tune is there but not the words; let alone - being able to google it out. hahaha!

ty ty! it's definitely hard to be a DJ. patience meter has to be very very long...not to be easily worn thin.

That's another common call we get; people humming to us (often out of tune). When we say "i'm sorry, it's not familiar" they get mad and keep humming. As if more out of tune humming will help! Hehehe...

Yes, it takes quite a bit of patience.

Most are first-time callers. If we just sound a little irritated, they say "i thought you were a nice person."

Sigh...
