How to keep your favorite station from reformatting

Recently I did some blog surfing. I found that some people were angry at the recent reformatting of a few FM radio stations. Almost all of the posts asked "Why?" Well, the answer is money. If they can't sell advertising time, they'll go broke.

So what can you do to make sure your fave station doesn't disappear from the airwaves? There are several things...

1) Listen, and keep listening. If you love a station and don't tune in often, then you could be contributing to their demise. If you listen more, and refrain from switching stations, their survey ratings will likely increase and they can earn the money that they need to survive. (Surveys are conducted quarterly, so you have to listen all year round).

2) Patronize products. If you want to help your favorite station, you must buy what's advertised there. If a company plays their commercials on your station, but their sales do not increase, it's more than likely they will never go back there again. (You might want to take note of products that exclusively advertise on your station. Also, stop buying when they stop advertising.)

3) Recruit listeners. Encouraging your friends, family and even strangers to listen to your favorite station will help increase the number of people listening. In the end, this will help their survey results. (One way to do this is by putting their sticker on your car/cellphone/notebooks/bag or by wearing their T-Shirt.)

4) Communicate. One way radio stations gauge listenership is thru texts, email and other correspondence from fans. If they get a tons texts every day, they can use this fact to convince advertisers to spend on their station.

5) Attend. Companies also put money into your favorite station's events. If nobody shows up, they'll think that your station is worthless. Who wants to advertise at a events with empty chairs?

These are just a few of the ways you can make sure you don't wake up one day to find our that your favorite radio station has disappeared. Remember, now matter how great you may think the music and the DJs areā€¦ if the station doesn't earn, it will reformat.

wow...no wonder...interesting stuff...i hope things that get reformatted, move for the better...not for worst as what some friends tell me.

I have trouble listening in at times since the radio connection gets all weird...sad really but I do really try my hardest on this. Don't worry...will text and call more when I'm in Manila and especially when I move back this year. :D
